As Texas’ freezing winter weather is ending, the Aggie Lemons racing team is counting the days until their big race on March 12. I went to their team meeting to watch them make the final touches on their “lemon” before they prep it for the “24 Hours of Lemons”.
When I got there the team looked a little stressed out, they propped the car up in the air draining the oil from it on one side and taking smaller parts out from the back. Since the race was less than 6 weeks away all hands were on deck getting the car ready for the race.
The head engineer of the team was occupied but I could pull the Aggie Lemons club president, senior multidisciplinary engineering technology Ethan Eve to the side and talk with him.
Ethan Eve has been a part of the club since before they were officially active.
“I started with this org way back before it was even founded, we held meetings trying to set everything up since fall 2021 “Our first official semester was spring of 2022, ” Eve said. “The founder was the president at the time, we all worked hard together to build this org up.”
As president, Eve said he has been working hard behind the scenes to keep the organization running long-term.
"The end of my reign is coming up pretty soon but short-term I would like to get our two cars running in a shorter format like autocrosses," Eve said. "I'm hoping to set us up long-term, so for this coming November we can show up to 24 hours of lemons and we can get our car running from start to finish."
Eve said in past competitions the organization has had trouble starting races on time and has only seen one or two checkered flags.
"We always have issues that force us to have to retire from the race early," Eve said.
Eve said in 15 hours between two days a lot can happen so they are looking to break their curse in this years race.
